Default Leading v trailing calipers

Reading the thread about grooved discs got me thinking - what are the pros and cons of leading and trailing calipers ?

Sometimes the decision will just be based on packaging, for example where the steering rack is (and therefore the track rods etc) will dictate what side of the knuckle the Caliper can go.

From a pure performance perspective of course trailing front calipers and leading rear ones means the weight is closer to the centre of the car, which is beneficial.

Yup - and with multi-link rear axles, the calipers can end up in some odd places.

Cooling may be a further consideration, depending on airflow.
