NOOOOO! don't change the other one, if it's working why would you want to spend twice as much on the job? By all means give it a clean up. And how do you know it hasn't been replaced by the previous owner? I changed a rear one three years ago (2006 car) all the rest have been fine so far, I would have just thrown my cash away.

IF IT AIN'T BROKE DON'T FIX IT!

EDIT - you MUST change both lots of pads together.

Really impressed with my local Black Circles agent - been there twice for tyres and both time they've said check your nuts' torque after 50 miles, if you can't do it then bring it back and we'll do it for you - nice touch I thought.

Put it on your monthly check list to check the nuts
Yup - my powder coat actually melted on a track day! Four wobbly wheels.

Exactly. Always remove with a solid bar or breaker.

Just curious, why is it such no no to loosen with a torque wrench? Even if the bolts are torqued to less than the maximum capable of the wrench?

Not that I even have a torque wrench... just interested

It is all dependant on the type of torque wrench you use. Some will only work in a clockwise direction, so when you apply a reverse force on the handle it can have a negative effect in the internals.

Others are reversible, these are less of a problem but if you hear it click and you keepo applying force then you are likely to damage the mechanism.

If you know what you are doing then there is no problem.
