Lightweight battery

I'm looking for a lightweight battery, what do people have?

Can these be used for daily driving?

Thanks

Varley 25 is a decent choice.

Ive got a Spoon battery tray stay FS if needed :)

I got a Varley Red Top 25.

On my third one and I generally get 18months out of them before they have to be replaced.

During the summer they are fine but in winter they will die if the car is left for over a week without being used.

I use the Spoon tray and stays.

(First lightweight battery I had was the Spoon, it cost about twice as much and didn't last as long as the Varley)

I had an RMD one on my old S, decent weight saving for the price being essentially typical acid battery however I destroyed it due to not being used enough. And you'll only get 5 days leaving it sat before it needs charged.

Maybe i should wait until its not a daily driver then I think. Thanks for your help guys

Probably for the best. I had an Odyssey battery for about 18 months which was fine. However after that it became a liability and had to be replaced.

Unless you use a trickle charger ?

I would say the opposite .... if my car was a daily driver the battery would never completely drain and probably last longer.

:)

Oh really, im just a bit concerned by the cold winter we had last year and it not starting in the morning before work. I suppose im saying if its going to be a liability i probably wont consider it

Winter won't make any difference I don't think - the cranking current required won't change.

eSeM is one of the few I know who use one on a road car and I don't think he has many issues even as a weekend sort of car.

I would expect a Varley Red top to last at least 2 years on a car used as a daily driver.

I tend to change them when it they can no longer hold enough charge to start the car after 2-3 days.

At this time of year I will occasionally use a trickle charger when I know that I won't be using the car for a bit.

Ok thanks all, that's a great help

Why do you want a lighter battery?

NFLS2K1990 10-26-2013 07:23 AM

I use and odyssey PC680, it's awesome just don't leave your car stand for more than a few weeks because once you fully drain a drycell they are useless

s2konroids 10-26-2013 08:18 AM

If your really wanting to reduce weight it's a cheap way or reducing around 6kg some aftermarket parts don't have to that weight loss to £ ratio. Is it likely you make a difference on its own - no.

Hi there, Do you still have the Spoon battery stay?
