Local dealer
Hi all , a quick question
Having read the Faq's I visited my local Honda dealer for some Shin Etsu grease
After being given a blank look I was told 'never heard of it , what's it for ? After explaining it's use on rubber roof seal's and similar and more confused look's a phone call was made to Honda Uk as a result of which I was informed that Honda no longer stock this
Do'es anybody know where this stuff can be aquired or suggest an alternative
Another quick question due to my rather limited experience of Honda dealer's .
Are they all a bit dim

I have also had this, but am now using a pure silicon grease from RS components, i think the stock number is 283-404 @£3-25 per 50g tube
I make no claims for its suitability, but it has worked for me.

A bottle of silicon spray from halfords and a pair of rubber gloves.
The spray can cause a bit of overspray but the nozzle it came with was great for getting the grease into all the nooks and crannies of the S rubbers.
For the bigger areas I just sprayed the glove away from the car and rubbed it into the rubbers.
edit - Yes, they do seem a bit dim.
Friendly, willing to help, cheerful. . .. but dim.
Somewhat like a spaniel with half a tennis ball.

Having done some research (inspired by Vixens Thread about greasing the O-Ring on her waterproof camera case) it appears that there are different types of material used for seals and different types of silcone grease that are appropriate. If you use the wrong sort then it could cause the seals to stiffen and crack rather than be soft and plump.
We need Honda to advise on a suitable alternative to Shin Etsu.

Use the part number from the site and use this at your dealer to order it...they WILL be able to order it...they're just saying that there's none left because they don't know what you're on about.
The 100g tube cost me ~ £10 from my local stealer.
