Default Loud banging noise

went out for a drive earlier today, just a normal drive not thrashing it etc, didn't even engage VTEC until I had done 15 miles and there were 3 bars showing in the temp gauge.

came home and parked it on the drive but decided to have a cigarette before going in the house. About a minute later I heard this loud bang/click from the front of the car and about 30 seconds after that another loud bang/click, made me jump a bit because it was that loud!

it does to a bit of ticking when cooling but as do most if not all cars but never heard anything like this before.

anyone any idea what it could be or if it could be something I should be worried about?

thanks in advance (sorry for the story )

Lots of stuff that gets hot, expands, then cools and contracts.

Because of the accoustics, it will be either the manifold or the cat.

Either way, nout to worry about.

PS - STOP SMOKING!!!

Yeah mine sounds like they are filming an episode of bonanza under the bonnet following a hard drive, less so after an easier one.

Still loud though.

I am amazed it takes 15 miles to get 5 bars. I get all bars after about 5 minutes.
Am I unusual?

You mean 3 bars I hope? 5 would be overheating would it not? Mines up to temp after about 5-10 mins...

Just because the water temp (bars) is up it doesn't mean the oil is up to normal temps!

Having an oil temp gauge really opens your eyes!

Takes my car a good 5 minutes later to get to about 60degrees - I only use full throttle when it gets to about 70!

Its takes some discipline trust me

I think I have just realised that this is a difference between models thing as actually it's 8 on my 05 when it's fully warmed up.

sorry if I have confused things.

Ahhh, sorry, still learning

(Sorry for thread hijack)

Mine cracks and bangs after a run, as mentioned just metal parts cooling down and contracting...
