Default Loud clicking from back end under braking.

Loud clicking from offside back wheel under braking. Last week it was the classic hub nut and that turned out not to be at the right torque, now this.

It's too dark to go out and take a look but it sounds like loose caliper bolts or something similar.

Will have to take the missus car tomorrow and have weds off to take a look.

Self employed so it's an expensive fix before I even find out what's wrong. Can't leave it till the weekend as we're away and need both cars thursday and friday.

Did you replace the hub nut or just torque it up? I found torquing it up not to fix the problem. A new nut solved it.

Just torqued it up.

I have a new one ready to go on though.

This click is under braking rather than the classic few clicks when pulling away.

I guess I could go bung the new one on later by torchlight though to eliminate that as the problem.

Good suggestion though as I'd ruled it out in my mind and probably wouldn't have checked that, thanks.

Cue display of general ignorance and clutching at straws, but...

What sound do bearings make when they're going?

More of a constant rumble from experience. This is a very on/off click.

The more I think about it, the more I think it could be the hub nut because of the way the nut is deformed into the notch to lock it. That would explain the fact it only happens in a certain direction (braking) due to the hub nut being re-used. (It makes more sense if you see it)

Its strange but for the second time in a week I've experienced something similar at the front right corner.

Sound is like I'm running over flattened coke cans and happened as i slowly pulled up at lights. Not rhythmic at all. Happened last week as I loaded up the front right to negotiate a tight left hander.

There's been nothing before or since. Is this something to worry about?

Update: Rear offside caliper removed, pads out, retaining clips bent out slightly, re-assembled, re-fitted. Noise gone...for now. Fingers crossed.
