Why would you fit a none std filter to a car in its 2nd year of warranty? It smacks of idiocy to me.

You need to make Chris aware this has happened twice.

Would someone care to enlighten me as to the rationale for fitting an oil filter other than a Honda one?

I'll discuss with Chris next week if not over the weekend.

Stevo - this is not a witch hunt, it was me who introduced Chris to the UK S2000 members and set up the first meet.
I have regular on going contact with Chris.
He did a superb job of corner weighting my highly modded S.

What I am saying is you should not trust such a specialist and expensive engine to a marginally cheaper part.

I don't doubt Chris fitted it according to the makers instructions.
That doesn't mean they are correct.

Several owners both here and in the US have had similar incidents.
Some have come out unscathed, some have lost an engine, others have lost the whole car after the oil ignited

One UK member on here had this happen twice on one trip.

None OEM filters on this engine are false economy IMHO

Funster make sure you get the engine bay pressure washed and remove any oil residue especially from around the exhaust manifold

Honda are already on the case with cleaning, but I will call 'em tomorrow morning to make doubly sure. Surprisingly good service experience actually. Although the chap who looked after me wasn't a regular at Winchester.

As for losing the car with the oil igniting.....

I've forgotten all about my egg incident.....

I would have been getting a Honda OEM filter on there before it went back - they will have every right to wriggle out of the warranty claim.

Any sign of the fitler? From a failure analysis point of view it would be good to have a look at it.

Also be intereting to see how many threads it has on it compared to OEM.

God its like im at work

I think it was PJL who came up with a very good anti rotation device - for the time and money, and number of people this has happened to, I willb e doing it very soon.

A J's Racing "oil stopper" is another option.

I've always used genuine filters on what ever car I've got, even the beater for work !! When people speak of the filter "failing", do I gather that the problem is with the filter unscrewing, going J8mie's last post ?
