First picture in the thread you can see the piece of plastic. Further down with it removed theres pictures of the three square holes through the body.

That is passenger side, sat inside the car, looking backwards.

​​​​​​It will be above the fuel filler in my case as you are looking into the panel that the rain rail is attached to.

I had to strip most plastics out when I was doing my fault finding. If I had to do it again now, I could probably do it with much less effort.



Hope this helps. This is further back than my previous photo, you can see a stud where the rain rail is secured to the left. I just jammed my phone in there with the flash on! It was easy to test, just poured water on to the bootdeck and watched for drips.

Never saw the leaks previously, as I always poured water onto the roof which was actually completely fine as it drains correctly. Hosing the area around this panel revealed the culprit.


These are the panels I am referring to. If you open the boot, they are secured with a screw. This is the screw that was causing me the problems.

Thanks Stoatmaster, makes much more sense from where it is now.
Does seem a pain to access that area with the dissembling of the trim required.
Pretty sure water is coming in from there but always worth a check.

Was the water only entering the book in your case and collecting in the corner or centre boot pan area?

Mine was dripping slowly in, and then working it's way down across the boot floor (Where it was soaked up my the felt on the liner) as well as running down between the boot floor and the rear arch skin, running back around the weld, and ending up in the boot well.

Total bastard to find! Trith be told, once water is in it can go anywhere! You know if it's this problem by pouring water on those panels but not the roof/roof drains. Monitor the ingress of water into the boot and see if you get any drips/dampness. Don't have to strip the roof out then.

Anyone repaired holes in their boot? You can get a new panel cheap enough but I imagine it'll cost a lot to have fitted.

Its alot of work to change the pan, DIY guys attempted it himself.
Its doable if you had a garage and the tools though.

Just to drag this up is case it assists anyone in the future while searching.

I finally got around to dealing with the damage caused by the grommit, required the quarter being removed!
