morning of fixing the S
about 2 months ago i experienced a vibration; turned out to be the usual driveshaft joint worn out. since i was at first unsure what it was (tyre, shock or driveshaft) i let it progress for a few weeks untill i bit the bullet and stated to replace things.
last week at CG i was informed about one of the rear diff mounts leaking (their oil filled), so i make plans to change it. not sure if this was brought about by the vibration or just coincidental that it happened within a month, but dont leave vibration issues too long
£30+P&P, used, for both rear mounts, from a trader on ebay which came next day and i've just had the morning replacing them.
what a faff about!
mounts themselves were a 10min job. real easy if body work and other stuff wasnt in the way.
off came rear bumper (optional, but really helped!), dropped the exhaust from it's rear bushes, and removed the anti-roll bar from its' U-clamps. dropped the diff down on a jack and out came the mounts.
overall not a bad job, but the stuff you need to remove because there wasnt another 3cm of space was a bit silly.
removing the rear bumper found me an extra job....corroded connections for number plate illumination and fog light. luckly it hasnt gone into the wire, and stayed in the push connectors. i did a bit of improvement with some heat-shrink tubing over the rear of the connectors and electrical taped it all up to avoid the majority of water getting in.
so thats my morning disappeared and another 2 jobs done on my S! next up will be a full set of brakes&bleed within the next few months.
i'm starting to like DIYing on cars again

Interesting.. I have a vibration under full load. I've added drive shaft spacers and still have the vibration. When you say it was drive shaft joints worn out.. What did you have to replace to sort it? Thanks

well, 2 options;
remove both driveshafts, swap over the cups of the inner CV joint, regrease and refit. this will wear the driveshaft cup on the opposite surface and stop the vibration
or, go for another driveshaft. i went for used driveshaft.
you can re-con 'em at around £120, but my local place would need the driveshaft for a few days and i couldn't do without the car that that length of time.
unfortunately you cant swap the shafts side to side, since one is about 1 inch longer than the other and refuses to fit
