Mugen N1 ECU
 

Has anyone tried a Mugen N1 ECU in an 04/05 car? I am not sure if there were any changes to the OEM ECU after 2003. My car is a 55 plate 2005 car and does not have DBW. I want to make sure the N1 ECU is compatible before buying one.

I know there are many options for ECU's in the market, not intending to start a debate if the Mugen ECU is any good, just would like to know if it will fit on my car or not?!

Europe kept the F20 where Japan and the US went F22 .. so I think the details you are seeing as being compatable are for different markets.

Plug in an early ECU to see if the car works :)

I've a JDM MY00 ecu I'll be getting rid of soon.

(I'd read that the F20 ECU works on the F22 cars, I think it's only DBW that throwas a spanner in the works.)

I am almost certain it will work.

YOu will need to find someone over here with an 03-05 car and get the serial number from the ECU.

Either that or ring the dealer, and ask if the standard ECU part no is the same for all years upto 05.

The fact that the engine setup is identical should mean they are the same.

Beware the lack of knock sensor...

We tried to fit an Spoon ECU in my '05 - but there was a problem with the immobiliser IRCC, so it was never fitted in the end!

But I dont think it is that simple. If you look on Kings Website they say it raises the rev limiter from 8430rpm to 9100rpm, I thought UK cars were already at 9000rpm, is this down to the variation in Octain levels? I dont intend to get the ECU from King, but surely there must be some differences..........

It seems no one has tried it?

Oh and I think the Loom was slightly different which also created the main problem!

That sounds like an ECU for an F22 ..

Which the US got several years ago and Japan got more reicently.

As long as it's for a 2.0 (F20) without DBW, you'll be fine.

I think you are confusing it a bit.

The US cars changed to a 2.2l and had a lower rev limit - so Mugen will have a different ECU for that model year.

The ECU being sold is for an AP1 2 litre engine without DWB.

RE the JDM Spoon ECU - the issue with the immob is common to all UK cars and is a simple fix.

Stick to the advice Bibbs and I have given above.

Bibbs, Mugen didn't/doesn't make an ECU for the AP2 F22, King actually list the ECU as AP1 1999-2003

I am almost certain that it will work.

I know that the ECUs were slightly different between 01 and 02 cars but they were interchangeable and I expect that there would also have been changes between the ECU in an 02 car and the one in an 04+ car.

I can remember that Andy Doherty had to run an 04 car with an 01 ECU to get it SVA'ed and I don't recall him reporting any problems with it.

One other thing to note is that with the Mugen ECU your fuel consumption will increase. The Mugen ECU does not have an imobiliser so you won't have a problem with that.
