I just couldn't drive one, I'm too tall plus I always think of this Daily Mash item that I re-send to my mate with an MX5 every spring without fail

But, agreed, drifting around every roundabout in relative safety is good fun - but planted, balanced cornering feels good too !

I had a MX-5 Mk1 1.8i before my S2000 (with a lovely but boring A3 in between). I agree with all of your comments, and when I first drove the S, I was actually a bit disappointed that it seemed less fun to drive than the MX. But something told me that perseverance would pay off, and it definitely has. The MX is great fun - but the S is a proper sports car, which needs a lot of respect and attention, and is a pretty tiring drive (for me anyway). I think I'm growing into it.

I had a Mx5 before my S2000, I absolutely adored the Mx whereas im still trying to gel with the Honda.
To be fair, you need to drive it to get to grips with it lol
What could you possibly mean by that?

I just found that you could grab th Mx by the scruff of the neck and rag it.Whereas the Honda seemed a far more serious bit of kit.Rather like having loads of fun on my Supermoto but scaring the shite out of myself on the Tuono

No engine mod's allowed in the Max5 series, just roll cages, tyres, and weight saving (which of course I ruined with my +80kgs)
+80kgs?! That's just your fingers mate!!

About the gearbox if this happens after 6000rpms I have the feeling that is 1st to 2nd synchro. If it was a metal part stuck somewhere it would happen and in lower revs. If it was from the clutch then same thing too. Try changing oil first and see

I'll believe that when my sh1t turns purple and my farts smell of rainbow dust.

Expect the people in first place to have engines costing upwards of £7k

The thing about racing is that the winners have cars that are more equal than the others

The MX5 is ace and it is more forgiving than an S. I still prefer the edgy handling (That isn't edgy at all) of the S though.

I've had a go in a few MK1 Mx5 and they were really good fun to drive, just enough power to have fun I think the Honda requires that bit more concentration if you want to go quick - still not sure if i prefer it. It's the open roof i like.

We have a Mk1 1.6 MX5 and the S2000.

The MX5 ticks the "pure fun" box, the S2000 ticks the "Grrrrr" box.

Perfect.

The downside is keeping the MX5 on the road is starting to cost money thanks to trying to keep the tin worm under control.

I started a post in Jan confessing I really fancied building a 260bhp Cosworth Supercharged MK3.5 MX5 which kicked off 3 pages of conversation5.

Best of both worlds in my view!!! Only thing missing is the big engine soundtrack, but both cars lack that.

Had 2 mx5s, missus had one 5 years so I got one after my last s2k, a 04 1.8
Okay to look at but the most dullest of cars to drive, god it was poor, had it 10 months and did about 1000 miles in it. They don't move, felt like a 100bhp auto
One day tho I might try an 06+ 2.0 sport.
