Default My Car is doin me head in

Hi Guys,

I usually just lurk around here but i had to ask just in case i do something silly like chop my S in for a Boxster.

Sometimes, usually in the morning my car (05) feels powerful and very responsive but alot of the time it can feel really sluggish. I can floor it in second and it seems to take an age for the revs to spin up and it can really leave me feeling deflated. For ages i thought it was probably just my imagination but recently i've experienced something quite worrying. I can be trawling along slowly in traffic and without me doing anything the car will suddenly start to accelerate or once or twice i've put my foot down and nothing happens for a moment and then the power kicks in.

Has anybody else experienced anything like this?

Please Help.

Andy

Not sure, but that sounds wrong. I've got an 05 car and never experienced that

If it's kangarooing then maybe an intake would help, had that on a few occasions

Is the map the plastic thing on top of the throttle body. If it is it doesn't have 'map' on it which i'm told it should. Does giving it a "whack" really help?

If it were heat soak, wouldn't alot more be experiencing this?

It does kangaroo but i'm more concerned with the lack of power.

Yes wacking it does help, but there is a TSB where the dealers attach a cable tie type device to it to cure a similar problem for free.

don't swap it for a boxster it'll feel like that all the time!

sorry, it sounds like heat soak to me as well, you do loose a LOT of power with the heat, is your car standard? especially on the intake side of things? are you runnin with the airbox lid off?

before you sell your car i'd advise you try some different intakes as this may bring back your love for the car

There already is a cable tie around mine which seems to be holding it in it's casing. Am i looking at the right thing?

How hard shall i whack it?

Wouldn't it be better to take it off and give it a clean or something?

Yes the car is standard and i don't have the air box lid off.

I was thinking about getting a snorkel but they only seemed to make it for the previous model which going by the position of the airbox looks like it would suffer more than the 04 which has the airbox further forward. Am i right or does the 04 suffer just as much from heat soak.

"before you sell your car i'd advise you try some different intakes as this may bring back your love for the car"

What different intakes did you have in mind? Are they expensive and do you think i would see a real improvement? Do you have a non standard intake fitted?
