Would a fellow s2k'er do me a favour please?

Remove one of your back wheels and grasp the driveshaft in your hands and pull it backwards and forwards to and from the diff towards the hub assembly. I want to know how much play you have if any.

I saw a clip on YouTube with a guy doing the same and he said this is what causes the pop/click from the rear axle.

I've done this on mine today and I have the tiniest bit of play in the driveshafts doing this motion and I want to know if this is what's causing the pop/creak/crack from the rear of my car or that slight movement is normal.

Many thanks for your help.

Paul.

Ok, just been to have a look. On mine, the drivers side moves 2mm at most. The passenger side I can't move at all.

Hope that helps,

Chad.

Thankyou Chad.. Did you remove the wheels to test this or just get under the car and have a yank. Yes I did say yank!

If I try to move the shafts with the wheels on the ground there is no movement at all on both sides.

if its a clicking sound your getting from the rear, i had a similar problem a while back. After honda looked at it a couple of times they found the driveshafts had play in them but seemed normal with no problem, so i dont think thats a real issue.
And the clicking turned out just to be the hub nuts had come slightly loose. They had an update on their system with a new, higher torque setting for them. And after they tightened mine up, it has been perfect with no unusual noises since.

Yeah, both wheels off the car and the car in the air. So the suspension will have dropped a bit too, which I would guess will make a little difference, but not much. Oh and, you're welcome.
