Default Need a good S2000 specialist near London

Apologies if this has been posted before. I've got two questions.

Firstly. Does anyone know any good S2000 speciliasts near High Wycombe/the West london area? I'm loath to take it to my local dealer as when I've asked them about technical issues on a number of occassions. The standard answer has been 'don't know we need to take the engine apart' i.e. please can you sign us a blank cheque! Not impressed given they made the car!!

Secondly, and related to the first request, I'm getting a rattle from the enginge.
It is typified by the following:

1. Constant rattle like something is loose. Not tapping. Can be heard form inside the car. Pretty loud.
2. Only occurs when engine is warm and gets worse the longer the car is driven.
3. Only occurs below 2,000 rpm.
4. Other sounds are starting to emerge now, just subtle differences. Very occassionally there is loud, sharp noise that comes from the middle of the dash when cornering hard. It sounds like a peice of metal vibrating, like when you pin a ruler to the table and flick the loose edge, only metallic. Last time this happened I checked my oil and it was low. A top up got rid of the noise but it occassionally re-appears.

From what I've read on the subject I'm 95% sure its a Timing Chain Tensioner problem but I'm no mechnic so wanted to get it diagnosed and sorted ASAP!

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks Ben

First choice is always TGM sport for me, based in Fleet, Hants - Tom does all his own work and is always friendly. Not much he doesn't know about S2000s either.

If you're closer to Amersham then Tony at Wheels In Motion is quite handy with S2000 alignment and suspension but not sure how much he knows about the engine side of things.

Changing the TCT is really, really, really easy! I did it last week using a how to from a guy in the states...whole job from start to finish took 15mins in the dark with a cycling head torch on!!

1. Remove 3 bolts that hold the airbox on (10mm socket) and move airbox to one side.

2. Undo the inspection cap/bolt on the front of the block (big alan key thingy...can't remember the size)

3. Undo 2 bolts that hold the TCT in place and pull it out (takes a bit of pulling due to the seals and once out exploded into various components on the floor).

4. Insert new one and do up 2 bolts. With a pair of long nosed pliers pull out the retaining pin via the inspection hole (pull it out a smidge first so you can get a good purchase on it and then pull it out in one smooth movement).

5. Refitt inspection cap/bolt and bolts for air box.

6. Job Done...fire up car and low and behold rattling gone.

7. Celebrate with a cold beer (optional)!!

The most time was taken up finding the bolts to undo and that was because I've only ever opened the bonnet to put oil etc in!

Go on, give it ago!!

Cheers

Coxy.

Jorge definitely. Knows them inside out. He is servicing mine in a few weeks, would not take it anywhere else.

You could try and highlight the fault but using a screwdriver and listening to where it comes from...

Get a long screwdriver and place it near oil filter near TCT etc and place your ear to the other end of the screwdriver and listen for the sound the louder it gets the closer you are getting to your problem.

This sounds silly (no pun intended ) but it does work.

Wow, thanks guys thats a good raft of responses! I'll give Jorge a call at Bushey Honda and see what he says. Its sounds very much like the TCT. But if not I want to get it sorted - probably should avoid the 9k revs sweet spot as well!!
