Netrwork Q Rally
I see the Network Q Rally Of Gt. Britain has just been stopped and abandoned after one of the cars went out of control ploughing into the roadside crowd and badly injuring 15 people! It sounds pretty awful. It was a similar incident that put an end to the Mille Miglia.
I hope the rally survives this tragedy, but of all forms of competitive driving, I think these guys take the biscuit for unbelievable skill given the terrain they drive on and the speeds involved. The way people push right up the edge of the track, I'm amazed we haven't had a lot more incidents like this.

Actually haven't they just cancelled 2 stages? Ford has also pulled out. (It was Saintz who went off. Team Manager Wilson pulled all the cars.). Thankfully, while 15 were injured, non were serious. Thanks for small mercies - I remember the end of the Group B monsters coming after the tragic death of a spectator, along with Audi withdrawing from rallying.
I do wonder how lucky we are it doens't happen more often, but I also wonder why people stand on the outside of corners...

I cannot think of many other forms of motorsport where people are so close to the 'action'.
Very sad but eventually inevitable.

I know what you mean guys but I feel its a pity that this has happened on what must be the best organised and marshalled event on the calendar I could have understood on say the Acropalis Rally or something....
I hope there isn't a knee-jerk reaction a'la Corsica....

I was watching stage 10 (Margam) the one before the accident.
My thoughts on what I saw at the corner I was at are as follows.
Generally the marshalls had folks away from the dangerous points and crowded at the safe points. However, there was one spot on the corner I was at were the cars were coming directly at people while braking and yet the banking just after the corner where the cars were accelerating up the hill was kept clear. Seeing the action I felt it would have been safer being the other way round.
Either way., wifie and I enjoyed the stage and enyojed watching/hearing the 2 ITRs and 1 Civic SiR II scream past at full chat. We'll be back for more next year.

He must be feeling awful, hopefully they will be ok.
