For £8k you are getting a teenage car if good Nick (as opposed to bad Nick on here, thanks autofudge) so it is likely to have had some paint I guess
If done well it should be no issue at all. Carefully inspect each panel.
Rust or a buggered engine could cost a bomb, anything else shouldn't. The cars are simple enough.
ask if they check the oil level a lot
Check the oil level
look for fsh or walk (doesn't need to be dealer)
Get an idea if they are mechanically sympathetic or not

i would look for an enthusiast car if i were you, sometimes you can tell by the ad, sometimes by the history. Pick a good un and it will look after itself, my 2001 is still totally reliable and it’s just turned 17! I have an abused, tuned, 99 which is less so haha

no, sorry i read people saying a car may have had paint, i think that is likely at near 20 years old

Found this one which looks ok? I quite like the red with some 17’s but aware it will need constant polishing so it doesn’t turn pink! Low mileage, low owners ( last one for a long time). Bonnet doesn’t looked closed but difficult to tell.
May have a look. Any wise words?
Thanks again!

I would suggest if you are in the NW, by that I include Cheshire Lancashire and Cumbria you get yourself to a meet of the NW group and look at a few cars there. Talk to a few owners and then go and look at a few of the cars you are considering. The more you see the better your chances of finding the right one.
Asking about cars on here is fine but eventually if you are to buy one you will have to go to see it.
