I have attached a sound file which isn't the best but you can hear the noise near the end of the clip I listened to it from drivers side front wheel it sounds like something cuts in and judders the air con was not on so not that any help will be appreciated.

Can you tell where the noise is coming from on the engine (approximately, obviously)? It definitely doesn't sound like the big ends, could it just be the TCT? Was any work done recently - maybe something wasn't put back properly?

Sounds like a heat shield rattle. The rattle sounds like it coincides with the frequency change in the revs, when the fans turn on and draw extra current.

If it's not a heat shield I did have a similar noise generated by my catalyst core rattling around inside its can.

My heat shield went from a small rattle to an horrible noise in very short order, sounded like I was flaying metal with a chain. Turned out that one of the connecting bolts had rusted and was rattling in it's hole. The heat shield was then amplifying this as it was now loose too. Quick check, tap the heat shield and see if it makes a rattle, plus check all the little nuts and bolts. I put a replacement bolt in mine (stainless!) and the problem disappeared.

On the plus side I sand blasted the TCT too as at first I thought that was the problem!

Yup, 75% the cat as I had that exact noise and it was the innards were lose. 25% the shield vibrating. DON'T go to Honda, as they quoted me £1500 (IIRC) for the replacement, plus fitting plus VAT. If you have to replace, get a Berk Hiflow which will help with the exhaust sound and slight increase in the performance.

Thanks all of you that's great S2K Phil as you seem to be more certain that's its the cat I will tell my mate he bought it last week from a Honda dealer in St Albans with a good warranty they can sort it for him.
