Default S2000 Rebuild

Hi folks,

New member as of a few months ago so thought I’d start a record of how she sits and develops over the next while.

It is primarily a track project so a lot of work ahead.

Welcome, looks like you have one sizeable garage there and a couple of stable mates for company.

Yea the accord had a full restoration about 3 years ago and has hardly turned a wheel since. Actually sold it a few months back to free up some room.

These posts will be a story of where I am so far after 5 months of work on the car.

I didn’t pay an awful lot for it as it was knocking slightly. Initially thought it might have been the tct so I ordered a ballade sports tensioner and some cam gear.

Then set to work putting it in and redoing the valves and timing. Amazing how the timing marks actually line up much better at FTC with the cam gear.

I’m having issues uploading images from my phone here, anyone any advice?

You can see in the above picture who the timing marks don’t actually line up and then with the cam gear in they are much closer.

I’d also have to admit that I’m not a mechanic and could be wrong about a lot of things here so bear that in mind.

So after replacing the tct and gear I put it all back together and got it ready for a blast, and the horribly knocking was still there. I know know this to be rod knock and a proper botched job. Previous owner had put in a new bearing when the crank had been already damaged just to get it moved in I think.

Sump was full of metal and knew it was going to be a bigger job than normal.

Stripped the whole engine, with the help of my uncle who’s an engine man, after I got it out to see what we needed. Crank was well wrecked. Out about 10 thou so I was a little disheartened. Still, I continued stripping down to make sure we could fix anything and everything that is wrong.

So I priced up all the bits for a rebuild and nearly had a heart attack lol. Just as my heart attack subsided I took the plunge and bought a genuine warrantied 48,000 miles engine that raises its head.

Must say, best thing I could have done and engine is a real cracker.

Few pics getting changed below.

So after about a week or two of ligging about I brought the car to my local for a full alignment and geo setup, and we all know what happened next.

Every bolt seized solid.

Car back to the garage and now being fully stripped / welded / undersealed, new bushes and ball joints, bearings, arms brake lines,.. the absolute works. Figure that I’m this far so I may as well go the whole hog as I’m going to keep this one.

I went back to where I got my engine and took the full rear cradle and hubs/arms as well as front arms etc as spares.

I’ve no effectively 2 engines/2 gearboxes / 2 diffs / 2 propshafts and 2 sets of running gear for each corner.

All of this is going to be powder coated also along the way.

At this stage I must admit that cutting the arms out with a saw was the most poison job I’ve ever done in my entire life lol. I’m currently pressing all the bushes out and then getting degreaser and ready for coating.

An assortment of pictures below.

I also got an induction kit to go on and they new daily arrived also so I gave it a clean.

Cheers for looking.
