New s2k owner with a rusty boot.
 

Hi all! New owner here looking for a bit of advice. I've inherited an my02 that's in need of a bit of tlc. My main issue is the boot floor...there's not much left!

I'm used to having a bit of rust on a car as I ended up breaking my Nissan s14 due to it. What's going to be the best route for repair? Is an oem boot floor easily obtainable or am I better off just cutting it out and putting a flat floor in and loosing the tool kit?

Another niggle with it is it has a lumpy idle. As a fair as I know it's always had it but I'm trying to sort it. It's recently been into the local honda dealer to try and fix it and they checked the valve clearances and done a few other checks. It came back fine but after a few days it started to do it again

Wow that looks like my fire pit!

A few owners overs the years have posted issues with water in the boot (due to s blocked drain) but this is the worse I've seen

Best bet would be to grind it all out to bare good metal and plate what's left

Everything that's brown has completely rotted so there's no decent metal till half way up. There's been ALOT of standing water in there at some point. Hence the decision of either an new floor or just cut it out and put a plate in.

The piece that you need to replace comes separate from the rest of the boot floor and can be got from Honda. Listed on Lings for £279.26.

I feel your pain. despite a liberal dose of heavy duty rust treatment mine's getting beyond help. waiting for my tool tray to fall thorugh at some stage. :cry:

I'll probably need to replace the tray completely so will be interested in your experiences if this is the way you go.

My advice is to make sure the leak is 100% cured first though. I thought I had and it just came back and now the trim is prettty much fooked too.

I'm wondering if a half decent metal shop can make up something that will do just as well as the Honda part and maybe even from something slightly more rust resistant.

Definitely cut the boot floor and go for a mad diffuser!

I got an S2000 last month and have the same problem - the leak from mine is coming through the smallish black plastic metal boot panel aligned with the bumper (sorry for poor description, there's many threads on here that shows the location).

The rust in mine is far smaller, but generally the plan is to strip the sound deadening and the paint, then having the rusted metal cut out and a plate welded in, then treating the whole lot with rust inhibitor paint.

Hope you get it sorted out, my car stinks of damp due to the boot carpet and will need to be cleaned too.

I feel your pain i didnt konw about this problem before i bought my S, when i started doing a few things to the car i noticed it and was quite pissed off, so over last winter i took it off the road and started the work as i was going to sort out the rust i thought i would underseal the car and do some upgrades while it was off the road Pollybushes, new brakes paint the arms, powdercoated subframe and a few other litte things,

this is how bad mine was and how it looks now, but didnt get a pic of the inside of the new boot floor i welded in :ponder:
