I was about to say well done on doing a job that i'd avoid like the plague ..... have you been through the adjustment stuff? Quite sure there was a few threads knocking about which detail what needs to be tweaked and fiddled with to give you that extra movement.

It looks to me like your roof support bars need to come forward about 3 inches whilst the roof material stays still.

Can you get pics of where the bars are sat inside the car so maybe someone with a roof that is fitted can take pictures to give you an idea how far out you are? That might point to the adjustment needed

I think you need to adjust the soft top frame as each soft top is marginally different and will have been stretched for the frame it came off.

Some hopefully helpful links

Out of interest, how close is the last bar to the roll hoops and is that or the screen close enough to knock against them?

Thanks for those, chap. The actual how to is the one I followed, the other link is one I found after the event.

I'm still absolutely none the wise as to why mine won't close. I can't see it being down to stretch but at the moment I don't think there's any way it's going to fit.

I'm going to try another couple of things but then I think I'll be abandoning it. Roof down, seats in, hard top on. Not a clue what I'll do following that, though!

I would definitely get some pictures up of where the respective bars sit inside the roof - is it that the roof itself won't stretch far enough or that the entire frame stops short of where it needs to be?

I've managed to get the two sides of the roof to bolt in with the plates, then raise it and have it clipped in at the front.

I can't see how on earth the back is going to reach.

Here's a couple of pics:

This is how close it gets with the back bolted up. It'll hardly move from here.

Back bolted, front as close as it'll go. The rear bar will move back and forth by hand easily enough:

and here it is with the sides bolted in:

I think you're missing the elastic on the bars - those two bars should not be that close together at the rear of the roof.

Can you see by the existing wear points inside and outside the roof where the bars used to sit?

Whoa, hang on;

I thought a glass screen roof wouldn't fit a non-glass screen roof frame, or am I out of date on that one?

The US boards reckon it will but i'm not 100% sure - i thought there was some frame modding to do ..... although if Keith has been following the DIY thread, I thought that might have been covered.

That sounds plausible UF.

Oh yes, second linky down on earlier post explains it fully.

Also says it's a tight bugger too.

It still looks like the roof bars aren't sitting correctly. I would be the first to admit I haven't taken a roof to bits but I would say that too much tension is the problem, possibly due to the frame not sitting correctly.

I don't know how much that can be adjusted.
