Notchy second to third
I am a new owner of my 2006. I love the car but I am disappointed in the gear change which from 2nd to 3rd is a bit notchy. It seems to improve over time but goes back to notchy when cold. Is this a feature or is there a cure.

My car had a new box under warranty for this condition when it was 6 months old
The new box now on 70k miles is and always has been notchy between 2 and 3 esp when cold or tiddling around , put some revs through the box and It's quick and smooth, mine currently has Honda MTF in it, it's about 8k miles old
Forgot how quick the box is the other day having only driven the A4 for a couple of weeks , drove the S and realised how short the throw is and how fast you can change gear, basically as fast as you can shove it through the gate and operate the clutch.

As chippo has said, once the fluid has become less viscous and warmed up, it's such a nice gearbox to operate. Mines notchy when cold or when you're pootling about.
After driving a Berlingo 5 days a week doing 600-800+ miles sometimes, with a gearbox like stirring a bowl of stones, the S2000 is such a pleasure.

Its a drivers car with a proper mechanical feeling gearbox, it should feel like a bolt action on a rifle. If it doesn't, something is wrong.
Change your oil as a first step. I use Castrol MTF fully synth. Others swear by Honda MTF, I don't think it makes much difference.

Yep, same as here, when cold and pottering about its a bit clumsy but once the spirited driving starts it's sublime. TBH I think the whole car in general really at slow speeds and cold is just a complete pain in the arse to drive.
