Default Nothing Happens Pressing Start Button

OK.

Yesterday afternoon I unlocked the car, got in, put the key in and turned it as usual.
I then pressed the start button - AND NOTHING - didn't even try and start the car.

Tried this many times - getting out locking it up and trying again - NOTHING.

Called the AA - they said they would be an hour....

I then tried again - AND IT WORKED!!! - car started.

I have had the battery checked and it seems fine - although I "think" it might still be the original Honda battery!!!

New battery £75.

I am happy changing it but can anyone think of anything else to try first ????

Steve

UPDATE (September 2015):

Drove the car over 7 days and many miles with NO further issues.
So anyone readying this thread in future - I can confirm replacing the alarm board has solved my issue.

Good and Happy motoring everyone.

S.

Similar happened to me ages ago, turned out to be a loose spade connector on top of the starter. Just about visible through the inlet manifold.

Worth a look

I had this issue for a while, and then a few months later the engine blew up. With a new engine it was fine and hasn't done it since, so I suspect something was loose that was obviously tightened up properly when the new engine was fitted.

Have a good look around and wiggle the wires to see if you can see anything.

If the dash lights go out and nothing happens when you press the start button, then that's the battery terminal being loose.

If it happens again, try pressing the 'unlock' key on the key fob. Occasionally mine does as you described if the interval between unlocking and attempting to start is prolonged. The immobiliser kicks in again until you switch it off with a second button push.

Thanks for all the replies so far:

jimmyb1978 - asked my mechanic to look at this - seems fine.
AshS2K - phoned Honda for a price - £100+ and delivery in four weeks (I think I will exhaust a few other options first)
Dembo - thanks for the scare! My mechanic has poked around and could not find anything wrong
BMWZ4MC - this is the usual immobiliser issue - by trying it about 10 times I think I can guarantee this was not the issue.

Just to update anyone who is interested.

My mechanic said he put the battery on test and found after a days wait and a little bit of load it had 9V.
He has suggested I get a new battery so I have ordered one from my local Honda dealer for £75.

The issue has not happened since. I think she was just a little upset that I got her wet on Saturday.

Thanks again for all the replies so far.

Update on the issue:

Replaced the Battery on Monday.

Replaced Tyres and Brake pads on Thursday. Car wouldn't start. Same issue.

I can safely say - it's not the battery.

Definitely an immobiliser issue. Tried getting out of the car and starting the whole process 6 or more times and then it started.
Must be that the signal from the key fob is being rejected by the immobiliser.

I have mow changed key fobs to see if I have the same issue with one of my spares.

Doesn't sound quite like my issue but it could be linked.

In the end it happened the very next time I tried to start it so replaced the circuit board and works like a dream now.

Have a word with Jim at H&P, he is in only Wednesdays and Thursdays only.

Nice to hear that someone else has had the same issue.
I will call H&P and order a new board.

While you're at it get one of these too, recommended by Jim. Apparently you can get into the box without one but after doing mine I can't see any easy way!
