Octane Booster
#1
Guys,
Does anyone have any experience with using Octane Boosters with the S2k. Most of the Petrol stations nearby home have super unleaded, but only 97 RON. As the recommended octane rating is at least 98 RON, I was thinking of using some octane booster every other tank to boost it up to the full 98.
Are there any strong opinions either way about using octane booster and any suggestions for a brand??

When I had my Evo VI, we had major discussions on this. Although all boost the RON, the additives can sometimes have deleterious effects in the long run. Millers was the booster of choice @

97 RON is fine for a while (95 if desperate), but it is best to run it on 98 RON. That octane rating is what your ECU requires to get efficient use of the fuel.
Luckily my B.P. garage still has 98 RON.
I have used 97 RON and felt no 'real' loss of power at 7500 rpm, but over the long term it could cause knocking in the pistons and engine. (due to lack of correct octane)
There may be an ECU mod to bring it down from 98 to 97 but I've not heard of one.
Using a bottled booster would be worth doing to prevent any damage over the long term, but I would use a little every time you fill up if you are going to use 97 all the time.

NA$TY,
I am very sceptical that ANY UK petrol station has 98 RON. Some stations still have a 98 sticker when it is in fact 97 RON. BP are unlikely to have it at some stations and not others. If you really want 98 RON I would double check with your BP station - can't see a national company not having a national policy.
The Evo VI does not suffer from pinking or knocking with prolonged use of 97 RON and it is designed for Japanese 100 RON.
