Default Oh for ****s sakes...

...I am!!!

It was a f'd battery. Had the jump leads connected and running for ~15mins yesterday and she wouldn't turn over, so I assumed it was the alarm not the battery, and didn't go to Halfords to get the battery.

Anyway, today I got myself a multimeter and there was only 5V across the damn thing. So tonight, off to Halfords, get battery, get home, fit it (5min job), get in, start car.

If I'd left the leads on for another 10-15mins yesterday lunch, I might have got enough charge in the original cell to start it...I genuinely had no idea that leads don't always work straight away...

Of course, I am now about 28 hours too late to take the car to the garage...

...of course, I DO still have an issue with that f'n alarm which needs sorting, but at least it's not immobilising the car...

So, a big thankyou and an even bigger apology to everyone giving me advice over the last two days...as penitence you may all start taking the p'ss...

If it makes you feel better given the battery was so flat it would probably have been knackered anyway and wouldn't hold a charge. So even if you started the car it wouldn't have started again.

I did think you'd dismissed that one a bit quick!

If a battery's seriously flat (Odd metaphor!) it will pull all the current down, especially if it's gone short. You can often hear the drag on the alternator of the donor vehicle.

The S2000 has a small battery and a BB8 'Lude a big alternator (for parking manouvres!) and that mithered a lot when my battery went short.

You remind me of that sketch.

"we've changed the fuel injectors. we've changed the regulator. We've checked the fuel lines. we've changed the lift pump. We've changed the tank filter and it's still starved of fuel. I wonder what else it could be?"

I had convinced myself out of it!

The 5 year battery limit seems as regular as clockwork.
