oil consumption

Uk S2000 owners have you had high oil consumption?

How much oil did you burn up to the first 9000 mile service?

After that how much oil per 000 miles

pls advise

If you do a search using the words oil consumption you'll find many threads on the subject. Most people find it normal for the car to use quite alarming amounts of oil for the first few thousand miles. YOU CANNOT CHECK THE OIL TOO OFTEN DURING THIS PERIOD!!

Check your oil weekly or every petrol fill up, whichever comes first.

Just had my 9000 mile service (at 9007 miles:cool: ), up to that point 9 litres!!!! Since the service (only 250 miles so far) - no movement on the dipstick:confused:

The dealer filled the car up with 5W 30 Shell Helix fully synth.

The car feels very nice after the service - I know they dont do a whole lot, but the post 6000rpm surge noise seems smoother - the car sort of whhhhoooooppppps!!!!! now:D

I reckon that mine consumes about a litre every 3000 miles, it has currently done about 12000 miles. Some oil consumption seems to be very common, mine does not appear to obviously burn it or leak it, and my dealer told me not to worry about it - so I don't :)

I do however check it weekly to be sure.

The oil must be being burnt musn't it?? (Flashback to Punto GT/cracked engine block/leaking oil saga.....noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Sorry!

The first couple of weeks I had the car it would literally "cough up" black fluid out of the exhausts when I started the car over the garage floor  I really hope this was just some sort of lining out of the exhaust or something.... I think the sooty exhaust tips are all the more obvious due to the lovely chrome outlets

The consensus seams to be that the S2000 burns oil. The fibre reinforced aluminium cylinder walls are very hard, and have very fine scoring from the manufacturing process. The run in oil is high in molybdenum, which gradually fills in these tiny scratches to make a better seal. So the piston rings take longer to seat than on most other engines. Also bear in mind that at 9000rpm, there's quite a bit of energy for forcing a tiny bit of oil past the rings!

My car's still using oil - though mostly after a long vtec session. (At right, make that all the time :D)

9000mile for first service....What's the service schedule in UK,.

I had a 625mile check, and the dealer asked me to bring the car back at 3125mile (5k) for another check including oil change?

If you ask for synthetic - do you trust your dealer to put it in? Did anybody bring their own oil for the service? You can buy Honda Gold synthetic in Japan - I'm wondering how that compares with the other makes - similar price, 40quid for 4 litres.
