Default oil top up question

Hi,

i have a question regards oil in my s2000,

I know that my car is filled with magnatec 5w30 a3/b4 oil... i have just bought some more oil to top up as i guess we all do, i got magnatec 5w30 but with a acea of C3, not A3/B4...

What does it all mean???

Is this compatible, should i use this to top up or is it not suitable, if i did an entire oil change would C3 oil be okay in a s2000?

Anyone know?

Thanks,

Roo

It's not the oil specified for the car. It's better to top up than run with low oil, but no one is going to vouch that a none specification oil is ok, and anyone that does is likely taking a bit of a guess.

An oil change is a couple of hour job even for a first timer. Get 5W40 Edge and a filter and show the car some love this bank holiday.

Get the oil changed (and filter) ASAP Castrol edge 5W40 as Phillip said. Also each 'X' on the dipstick is 100mL always keep it topped to the top 'X' never ever ever let it get to the bottom 'X'.

The recommended oil is 10w30, so 5w30 is fine. The top up stuff you have is fine too.

All the oil designations are here: http://www.racq.com.au/motoring/cars...l_designations

I agree with lovegroova. I ran my old S on magnatec for years without an issue.
The Edge 5w40 is a better oil, but don't drop the current oil just because it needs a top up.

Castrol 5w40. Also you can do the 5 minute cool down and oil check as some is retained in the head, hence the advice to keep it at least above bottom X

hi, thanks all for the help,

i am not too stressed about the oil viscosity, 5w30, 10w40 etc... people have varying opinions on that! was more confused by the acea code, as i couldnt find 5w30 with the a3/b4 to match what was already in the motor... been trying to find out what C3 rating means, seems to be to do with catalytic friendlyness.... i think.
