Most fuel injected petrol car's do actually inject fuel on overrun. Granted, the injectors do only fire every circa 20-40 crank revolutions to try and keep the cylinders warm to prevent fuel condensation when you next get back on the gas. Deisels don't inject at all on overrun.
It definately is more economical to leave it in gear when coming to a stop, rather than coasting.
