Default Parts from USA...

Has anyone in the UK purchased larger/expensive items, such as set of alloys from America?

Out of interest... is there any 'hidden' costs...? For example, I have a delivered price for some stuff, but do I get taxed when they land here in the UK?

Any help/past experiences shared would be appreciated... could make the difference as to if its worth bringing in from America or better to source in UK.

Thanks

Mish

Chances are you will be taxed.

Customs have always refused to release my goods until I have paid duty.

I all my experience of importing stuff, when caught, it's been the usual ~£25 charge or something.

Importing alloys from the US FedEx wanted Duty paid over phone before they released. Importing BBK from the US, DHL sent a Duty bill a couple of weeks after delivery (Thought I had got away with it!)

I bought an alloycraft rear diffuser, it's quite a large item and it goes right back past the diff, I received a 35£ Tax charge for this

You should be charged 20% on the value of the good including the postage cost but if you have a nice seller in the U.S. They can mark the value of the good at much lower than you paid to help reduce the bill your end

If you are after Volk Racing wheels, try Co-ordsport/Part Box or Injection Imports.
