Jet A1 fuel is around 0.785.

Essentially it is kerosene with additives.

Petrol is slightly less than that around 0.75.

So 100L of petrol equate to around 75kg.

and diesel is a bit heavier than petrol.. hence more energy per volume available to burn.. hence more mpg for a diesel car

Unfortunately there is no exact answer, the density can be somewhere between 0.71 & 0.74 ie 71 to 74 Kg per 100 litres. It really depends upon the adatives. Use somewhere in the middle.

It also depends on the temperature.

F1 teams always talk about Kg, as the amount of fuel in a litre varies.

is that because it's much more accurate to measure by weight rather than volume ( if you know the temp. )

Temperature has influence on the volume as it will expand/contract... the weight will stay the same

What you should ponder is adding something to fuel to make it more efficient.

Instead of adding expensive additives or short of adding racing fuel, you can add toluene, say 20% to a tank of 98.

This will increase your detonation and make the engine perform much better.

Toluene is slightly denser in fact and packs more Octane hence the performance upgrade.

Adding around 10ml of diesel to the mixture will ensure all the rubber lines are well lubed to prevent oxidation by toluene, which is a very powerful solvent.

Next time you are going to fill up think about it.

Toluene is not expensive and will make you go faster.
