If you can wait that long you could bring it to the Herts meet on Thursday 4th February.

(Feel free to join our 'parade'. )

There will be some clever, experienced people there who would be only too pleased to have a listen.

I had a bit of a bad experience with my TCT. My local dealer wanted to replace loads of other stuff including the tensioner and quoted a bomb for the work. I was fortunate to have been able to buy the part from a member and TGM in Fleet fitted it for me for next to nothing when I had my clutch done.

It is a fairly easy DIY job if you want to tackle it yourself.

Yeah that sounds like a good idea. I'm working at 21:00 though so it will depend on whether I can book it off at short notice. :S

but hopefully I can make it. Get to meet some members

Edited post:

I have just noticed that 2 'x's and a t have been scratched on the front of the engine. Can this be a sign of some timing/chain stretch check??

if you have the service history contact the garage where it was last serviced, otherwise get into contact with the previous owner, if their details are not on the v5 then I think you can get them from the DVLA

Thats a noisy valve train.
Valve clearances need doing first and then see how it sounds.
You can always then see if there is bad wear to camshaft lobes whilst in there.
Often they quiet as once warm - the clearances decrease slightly so that ties in with your findings.
I have also had the bearings fall apart in idler rollers or alternator.
These tend to produce a general 'background mechanical noise' that is hard to define.
Take the long serpantine belt off and spin all the pulley wheels to check.

Steve.

Hi Adum, any luck? What did the dealer have to say?

Since reading this thread I've become paranoid about my S2000 - though, having not heard many S2000 engines in the past, I'm just not sure what I should be looking/hearing out for as I have no benchmark or basis for comparison!
