Possible Compulsory Track Insurance

Not for track days.
As I mentioned above, racing is a different matter.
Take MB's recent very near miss where a car behind lost control, and slid right across the track. Had MB not had lightning reactions and hit him, the driver behind was clearly at fault.
At present, I guess the arrangement is that everyone pays for their own damage? (MB, can you confirm this?)
In that situation, MB would be within his rights to claim from the other driver, whose insurer would pick up the bill. Add in injury costs to this, and a large claim could easily result.
Then again, insurers only need be involved if one driver pursues a claim against another. The current "gentlemen's agreement" would still effectively be in place.
If there were no claims made on these policies, then premiums would not be prohibitive.

Correct Si, any racing incident is generally for indivduals to sort out, regardless of fault. Sometimes there's goodwill and the offender will stump up, but otherwise (and more ofthen than not) it's 'that's racing' and you ahve to pay for others cock ups
In my case if the guy had hit the side of my car, both would have been a write off and he wouldn't be obliged to pay (i've no doubt hospital trips would have been involved too)

The MSA have just today published a press release on the subject. It may clarify some of the facts and dispel some of the conjecture.
