am i right in thinking you can swap clocks without the need to recode anything? Literally plug and play?

More an opinion than answer, but the clocks must be independent of the ECU. I've changed ECU a number of times, and the clocks have stayed the same (i.e. mileage). That must suggest that the clocks maintain data that is independent of the ECU, rather than a dumb display of it. If that is the case, there might be some locking to prevent swapping out and 'clocking'.

I believe the clocks are independent, if you swap them over, it'll display whatever the mileage was on the display at the time they were taken out.
My friend has a facelift and I've got a prefacelift - he suggested I swap my clocks once I hit the same mileage as the donor clocks.

I'm confused: My clock displays the time, not the mileage. I can set it to any time I want.

I think OP was referring to the speedo cluster as the "clocks"

There's really this much difference in our nomenclatures? I get hood/bonnet, fender/wing, and trunk/boot -- there's more irrationality?
