Problem, name that noise

I'm unsure if this is Supercharger related but it seemed to appear a short while after fitting the SC (so its more than likely) more notably tightening the belt, however any slacker and the belt would slip on the dyno (and I have the correct amount of deflection). The sound appears to be coming 'roughly' from the left hand side of the block down towards the bottom (if looking at the engine when standing in front of the car).

Car runs fine, I'm guessing it either an SC pulley tensioner bearing or the idler pulley bearing etc.

It appears to not happen at idle but only during partial throttle, I'm not 100% if it appears during cruising.

In this clip the noise starts at 20sec's and finishes at 23sec - it sounds like a minidump valve/click. I don't start the car till half way though the clip - the clip is only 30secs long.

Any ideas?

Cheers

Does the sound come from near the sc?

Like you said it sounds like some bearing having a bit of play and getting tensioned up... what happens if you spin it by hand? can you hear/feel something?

Seems to be down the bottom of the SC - its not from the SC.

You wont be able to spin a pulley hand (easily though I'll have a go :)) its pushed against by a belt and the turned by the crank pulley.

Cheers

Difficult to tell from the clip, but I wonder if the beating your idler pulley got has maybe damaged a bearing?

SC main pulley bearings can go, esp if they are overtightened.

You should be able to check the play in them, but not sure what deflection is normal without the bearing info.

beating?

I was unware there would be play in a bearing?

Bearing on the pulley on the SC itself or belt tensioner pulley bearing?

Sorry, I meant taking the belt off and then turn the pulley to feel the play, could be radial or axial play I guess that makes a noise if under load

Guess I'll have to do this

Thing is if its overtightened wouldn't it make a loud screeching/terradactyl noise - not that anyone was around to remember what they sounded like :D

Don't look it up on this link :D - http://www.urbandictionary.com/defin...rm=terradactyl

Mark cant then tell us about his 'boston pancake' and 'strawberry cheesecake' experiences
