I suffered this for about the first 8 months of having the car. it got louder and i got more annoyed. eventually honda agreed to replace the clutch under warantee. it's the clutch springs vibrating - someone, somewhere on the US site has scanned in a copy of the Honda service bulletin, so honda definately know about the problem

I didn't get the new improved clutch, since it hadn't been produced when mine was replaced, but so far i haven't had a reccurance of the problem.

I have had this problem when decelerating in third from time to time (ive done 8k miles), but its not that bad 'yet'... I am slightly concerned that it might get worse. It certainly doesn't sound too healthy.
Mine is due a service in a few weeks time, so I'll get my dealer to check it out then...

When I decelerate in 2nd and 3rd gears between about 3000 and 4000 revs i get a metallic rattle from the engine (actually the clutch). It sounds like a metal plate being 'flicked' or vibrating quickly.

Since clutch replacement is so expensive for wear-prone item, this noise problem combined with the three-year warranty seems like a good thing to me!

Update...

I took the car into the garage on saturday morning and took a mechanic out for a test drive.

He said that the rattle was 'very noisy' and didnt hesitate to recommend a new clutch on warranty.

so... alls well and all that

Excellent news!

One comes to expect Honda to pay up and look big.

Funny how other manufactures eg, Fiat, Vauxhall seem to bleat and whine at the first sign of a claim. And they wonder why they're going down the toilet.

Glad you got some joy from your dealer. Mine, if you still need it is Gordon Lamb @ Chesterfield. The service managers name is Steve and so is the mechanic. Both are sound blokes. Dont expect too much from the replacement clutch if its the first updataed version, it will probably be alot quieter initially and then after aprox 1000 miles it gets noisy again. It creeps up on you and you start questioning your own ears. Lets hope they get a definitive modified unit. Goodluck.
