Re-coding used ECU
 

Have bought a used ECU and now engine light going out ok but needs to be programmed for immobiliser, looked online and looks a simple procedure using i SCAN-II unit, dont know if this is a Honda only unit or comercially available but all the local auto locksmiths i have contacted dont offer ecu re-programming just duplicate keys.

Anyone out there know of anywhere (pref in North East) that can do it?

Honda can code it from memory, if you have the vin number for it.

Honda tech info i found online didnt mention needing donor car vin, reading service manual it sounds straightforward if have the required scan tool unit, only place have found upto now is in Sheffield, probably mean posting them ECU and copied key to re-program.
Tried putting ground onto main relay coil (A15 on ECU) got pump running but still not starting, measured both ECU's one that starts car had 8.4v on pin A13 but other only had 194mV this pin called Immobiliser enable, dont know if is just a voltage or special code/something from code reader at steering column??
The number of used ECU's on E-Bay someone must know how to do them.
Waiting to hear back from local Honda dealer, probably not the cheapest option!

You don't need the donor VIN, but you do need a tool that can access the part of the ECU that holds the key pattern. In essence, what you are trying to do is programme the ID of the key(s) so that the ECU recognises them as valid. The VIN has nothing to do with it really - unless Honda have some policy around requiring the VIN.

When I needed to do this for our Stream (not S2000) Honda charged me €120 to re-programme the keys and unlock fob to the ECU. Other devices can also do this, such as the Sanp-On tool, etc.

I did purchase a knock-off Honda HDS reader from flea-bay a few years ago, this was useful for standard OBD stuff, but any of the esoteric menus, you need a proper reader/writer as the knock-off just timed-out.

From what I know to guarantee success, the Honda dealer route is the best option...

Last time I did this with Honda, they wanted the vin... not saying that's policy, it's just a fact form my experience and form a theft point of view I'm not surprised they want it.

Still not much further forward sorting it but have found a used Honda PGM tester for sale with immobiliser card, hoping can use it to program the ecu?
If wont/can't if i got the ecu and complete lock set/key from a known good car would that not work? key reader at column dont think coded but if got column with it as probably bolts holding ignition barrel will be anti-tamper type.
