is it easy enough to do? i have read the DIY

If you read the photo essay the right grease is in there. It's a Honda product. Pay attention to the lever orientation as it can go back in reversed 180°.

Honda won't have the correct grease, they discontinued it over here, do a search for "super high temperature urea grease" Tegiwa stock it I think. (just checked, they have one in stock). Did mine and had enough over to do the ball on the clutch slave and fork.

Damn it! Hopefully some where local will do it so I can get it done!

It wasn't available at all here in Europe until maybe last year so seems weird it would be discontinued.

The nylon end bushing on the gear lever is relatively cheap from Honda and worth replacing at the same time. It does wear over time and is easy to replace. There are phosphor bronze replacements that are even better - they remove most of the tolerance improving the shift even more. (Somewhat tricky to install though due to the tighter tolerances). Final thing to note - the nylon ring that holds the rubber boot becomes brittle with age so the tangs have a habit of breaking when removed. You might want to order a replacement.

All of the above can be had from Honda for < 15 quid ... i have spares of both for the next time i do it. You may want to heat the new nylon bush on the bottom of the shifter in hot water before installing it, if it's cold, it's brittle and it WILL snap when you try and fit it over the metal shifter ball.
