I put 4 RE050's on mine before doing a few thousand miles in France. I like them; good grip and the side walls seemed pretty stiff. IIRC they are both directional and asymmetrical.
I have 225's on the rears - but when I came across an older Boxster (not s) that was running 265s I think (might have been 255) on the rears I was surprised that a very similar car had so much more rubber?!

Where's its lump though?
Also, German cars are over-runnered usually, which is why they're all roadholding & no handling.
The 16" S-02s have a 245 tread on a 225 carcass, as most forget!

Actually, I've jsut checked that:
The S-02 ES02JZ's tread is slightly wider than S02J's by about 1/2 cm on worn tyres.
It's nowhere near 245!
That's another S2000 urban myth destroyed.

I reckoned measuring them the fronts (205) were 195, and the rears (225) were 240. I compared that to the 195 Bridgestone tyres on my Primera which really were 195, so I think I was measuring correctly.
I've still got an old S02JZ in my garage, and I measured that to be only slightly smaller than the ES02JZ. So I think they pulled the same trick with the Porsche one, just not as much.
So changing to a genuine 205/225 is going to give you more front end grip and less rear. I now have 205/245, which I feared might make it more understeery but has done the opposite.

Interestingly enough, since I replaced the rears on mine a month ago with RE050As (still have S02s on the front) the car has been ever so twitchy. I was starting to think that maybe the GEO needed doing so its interesting that someone else is having a similar thing.
I was going to put an ask out on the next meet in the area, to drive it and see what they thought....

shepp, have you still got S02's on the front? any problems with having different rears as my rears need replacing now but I still have loads of tread left in my front S02s!
the floatyness of the car is gradually reducing with more wear on the tyres as they soften.
I could really do with a geo check, is Chris coming up North
or any other suggestions..
sorry when i mean non directional, i was refering to the tread pattern in comparison to the S02's
