Rear arches
#33
After seeing this thread I decided to have a look at mine. Scraped all the crap off the arches and cleaned them all off. Uncovered that the majority of the underseal had disappeared. No wonder they rot like they do around the rear arches. Spent a few hours today under sealing them all so hopefully keep the rot away for the foreseeable.

I got mine done last month too after a 10p size piece of bubbling arose on both sides. Glad I got it done when I did as the extent of the rust on the inner arches, like yours, was running away. New metal all round, the lower rear sills done as well at the same time and waxoil stuff sprayed into the cavities.
Feels good to have it done doesnt it! Next job is to machine polish the rest of the car to match the condition of the new paint!

To clarify, do you need second hand arches to be the cut and welded in, Or can new metal be fabricated and welded in, is one cheaper than the other?
Also, Does anyone know a bodyshop in Nottingham that can do this work?
Thanks

I've had my work done at a small bodyshop just south of Stockport...the guys seem competent. I'll update with pics so you can judge for yourself

A friend of mine runs his own welding business called 'The Welding Corner' in Hampshire. In addition to making some high end rustic furniture for local businesses, he undertakes a considerable amount of vehicle restorations, including MX5s, convertible Minis, Morris Minors, and recently a TR6 that was completely rotten.
He makes his own panels out of steel where a replacement doesn't exist, or if it's just easier/more cost effective to make one - his expertise is really impressive - he even made an enitre chassis rail for the TR6. I cannot convey just how good his work is - I'm genuinely staggered each time I visit his workshop!
Check out his Facebook page or website (the gallery is particularly good) if you want to see his work - it's just him, so if you want his to take a look at your S, give him a call a couple of months before you want the work done.

There's even a good paint shop round the corner that I use for my vehicles too, and for those that know me, I'm a right fussy git.
