Ron and Ray ripped mine off one day at the garage, I didn't have much say ... haven't missed them since.
Ron did i don't agree unless you protect the rubber boots
Yep, agree 100%, the rubber boots are very close to the discs so will be affected by the heat. What I did was basically wrap all the boots with a piece of heat resistant bandage, jobs a fish.

Interesting - what sort of bandage did you use? I'm coming round to the idea of removing them but certainly don't want to put other components at risk.

Cheers

That's my concern with removing mine
replacing the boots is a lot more work

You'll be OK if you do as Tozerman suggests

This is the sort of stuff I mean http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B...omotive&sr=1-5

I'll nip into the garage and take a couple of pics while my wheels are off.

This is the rear upper,

This is the front TRE

I didn't do the front upper ball joint as that is not too close, but did all the others, 3 at the back and 2 at the front in total.

Great - thanks for going to the effort of taking the pics :-)

Think that's decision made then - whip them off (or more likely crumble them) - and then get some of that on the go.

Did you secure the tape with the metal cable ties? Think I can maybe see one in one of the pics?

Thanks again

Alistair

Yep, metal cable ties, cheap as anything on Amazon, be careful though them f@#kers are very sharp and can lacerate you easy.

Stupidly, I didn't notice the proximity of the joints to the discs when I removed the guards on mine. No issues yet, but I'll definitely put in place your suggested prevention. Heat wrap on order!
