Rear caliper binding
Thought I could smell something burning at the back a few days ago!
Last night it smelled worse so poked my head around the passenger rear wheel...
It wa absolutely covered in brake dust, and the wheel was rather hot! Hopefully it has been intermittent, or my poor wheel bearings will ahve been suffering too, as well as a massive load on the diff.
I then took the handbrake off on a hill and it wouldnt budge, so it was clearly stuck.
Then started the car, and pulled away, jammed on the brakes v hard a few times.
All seems to be ok but I bet this will come back.
Has anyone else had this? Did a refurb kit fix it? (new seals etc)
Or is it the handbrake...?

i had it aswell, however i got the refurb kits, i believe i have two sets of the rears as i did not use them in the end, all i did is unbolt the caliper and cleaned all the grime and shit of the piston, the rub seal will move back allittle, but what i did was pump the pedal so the piston came fully out and then cleaned it that way, worked fine, however if u dont fancy that i may have the refurb kits if u wanna go that way i got them from hardtop guy

You will just wear out the brake pads out quicker, and if you dont sort it soon you'll eventually knacker/score or possibly warp the disc.
Common problem on our S's , once they've seized im afraid the chances are you'll need a new caliper, i had a refurb kit but it was no good.

Wearing the pads and disc is one issue, but if its on the rear and left unnoticed you are asking the diff to do a MASSIVE amount more work than its used to, as one the sticky brake will mean that wheel is turning significantly less all the time, the balance being taken up by the diff. The diff is normally only working on cornering.
You will also nacker the bearings as the heat is soaked into the hubs etc.
It got bloody hot in my case!
Phil - what are you after
