rear end vibration

rear end vibration
The last few days I've been noticing a bit of a shudder/vibration - I think from the rear of the car. Initially I thought it was just a firm ride, as I'm relatively new to S2000 ownership, but I'm moving away from that notion as even on the smoothest, newly laid piece of tarmac there is still constant subtle shaking going on. If I glance over to the empty passenger seat, it is jiggling away slightly, and my view in the mirrors always a slightly fuzzy representation of whats behind.
Any thoughts? The frequency doesn't seem to relate directly to wheel speed, but does smooth out as speed increases. It is also less noticeable on smooth road but still present.
Any and all advise welcome...
EDIT: I'm noticing this just days after removing the hardtop. coincidence? Now there is less weight over the rear axle?

Flat spots on tyres / balance.

Thanks for the replies. Its not lowered, and tyres are pretty new so I don't think there are any flat spots. there's a number of potholes around though so balance isn't a bad shout.

Even without lowering it still could be knackerd driveshaft cups (Inner CV) as the metal can pit in them quite badly:

If you do eventually get that diagnosed then I noticed that Balladesports doe some uprated ones http://www.balladesports.com/product...t-assembly-kit
(The cheap option is to just swap the cups from each side)

Some roads are just like it, I have this on the newly laid A3 near me, its not just the S that suffers and other people have commented they thought their wheels were out of balance on the stretch of road too.....
