Rear Shocks Recommendations
 

Hello!
Recently bought and S2000 and fixed it after the previous owner crashed it. Trying to learn what I can in the meantime, after replacing headlight, various brackets, tie rod ends and the brakes.

Took it for the MOT and unfortunately it’s failed on rear shocks.

From a bit of research on the forum, new OEM seems impossible to get hold of, used OEM likely will have similar issues soon so looks like the move is to go aftermarket.

I think Koni’s are going to best for the budget (Ohlins would be preferable, but think we’ll have to save up for those…)

I’ve found a few sites that sell them, albeit some look a little different with the same part number and wonder which would be recommended? E.g: on the 2 links, there’s different ways to attach them

If anyone has any alternate links, or knows if it’d be worth paying extra for the Yellows instead, would be good to know

You can pick up OEM shocks from some Jap sites but you need to know what you’re looking for. Your springs will be colour coded as per your car MY, every 2 years they were different . You need this and the shock part no which should be stamped on it.

Any of the coilovers you mentioned are certainly good enough.

A lot of people have swapped to koni shocks, that's the cheap solution

Swapping all for coilovers is a lot more expensive but a good solution. I wasn't aware you could get the (OEM) Showa shocks - that's a good solution too I think

I picked up a complete set of Type S suspension, only 3000kms for less than £1k home duty paid. As new.

Yeah I’m based in the UK, Northampton specifically

I committed to the Koni orange shocks, which for just the rate cost £120 each, and managed to get delivered next day. Interested to see how these feel once I fit them

That’s good to know OEM is still possible. I got a quote at the local Honda dealer and they could only source me one shock, which was £480.

I have Yellow Speed Racing Dynamic Pro fully adjustable Coil overs, with 33 settings for hard / soft feel all done from the dial on the strut tower. Overkill I would say trying to dial in what you need, but I suppose it's to some people's taste. They were on the car when I bought it.
They're alright I suppose, about £900-£1000 a set depending where you buy. Bilstein do something similar and might be better quality, who knows, but are around £500 dearer.
If I was pushed, I'd stick with brand new OEM if they were available. I'd avoid used OEM, they are for the most part tired now and you're unlikely to find a used set with 50k miles on them or less. Most are pissing their seals But you're right - Ohlins might require a credit card as they are dear, but probably the best you'll get for the car.

I loved my Bilstein PSS9s, though no idea what they cost these days.
