The correct size would be 225/50/16, might be worth a try.

correct size is only 225 when on S02's.
i found a thread somewhere with bridgestones response stating 245's should be used for all other tyres...

Well, I've run on S02s, Avon ZZ3 and Bridgestone REO50a in the last 7 years with 225/50 all the time and no problems to report. Bridgestone recommend the RE050a as a direct replacement.

I'd ignore the old Bridgestone advice (which is in the FAQ) if I were you which I suspect was more of a marketing thing, as not many other manufacturers produced 225/50 16W tyres at the time.
