Recommended Battery?

Bit of a dull question but figured I'd ask...

Any recommendations on batterys for the car, loads to choose from so wanted peoples opinions and experience :)

OEM, PM Si@Hendy or head to the trader chat section.

OEM is the best

Just go into a dealer. I found them to be same price / cheaper than branded batteries at euro car parts and halfrauds.

johnckeen 03-09-2016 04:08 AM

ok thanks :)

Hellfrauds battery has the terminals on the wrong side. It's also shite as it lasts only 2 years.

have just this week replaced mine - Halfords job. cost £55. I got an HB057 however the HB053 also fits. the last one did about 4 years which is ok considering how little the car is used - it spent most of its time being charged and left to run almost flat. cant say if oem better - nearest dealer an hours drive away which somewhat excessive for a battery.

I bought a Yuasa 12V Silver Battery HSB057 from Halfords for £75...Seems strong nearly 18 months later.

buy the one with the longest warranty , it might cost a tenner more but buy cheap or buy twice

I did try John Banks Honda, but they wanted £95! I just bought got this Yuasa Silver 5000 from Halfords for £59.99 using a trade discount card (20% off). One thing to note about the Yuasa is that it has spacer rings added to the posts to make them the correct size as they are made for JDM cars. I had no issues, both connectors tightened up fine. To clear up any confusion the HSB053 (Yuasa Code: YBX5053) is the right one for the S2000. The +/- connections are the other way round on the HSB057.

A quick breakdown of prices and specs (where specified);

Yuasa Silver 5000 £75
AH Value: 48
Dimensions : 238x129x227mm
Startup Power: 430 amps
Weight (kg): 12.10
Guarantee: 5 Years

Cox Genuine Honda S2000 Battery £60 (+ £6 next day delivery)
Hendy Genuine Honda S2000 Battery £66 (+ £6 next day delivery)
AH Value: 48
Startup Power: 420 amps
Guarantee: 3 Years

Lings Bosch S4 023 £75
ECP Bosch S4 023 (159) £64 (£54.39 with MARCHMAD promo code)
AH Value: 45
Dimensions : 238x129x227mm
Startup Power: 330 amps
Weight (kg): 11.68
Guarantee: 4 Years

If you search by registration on ECP it only lists the S4 021. However the S4 023 has better specs for the same price! Presumably they are trying to sell off old stock of 021's!

I've swapped to the Yuasa one. So far so good. OEM always felt week and only ever get a few years out of them. Yuasa definitely has a stronger start in the cold over OEM imo. Car usually feels weak, but has been fine this winter, even with my very short journey each way to the station (3.6m)

Plus, if it's good enough for the BTCC teams, it's good enough for me :D

Toms1989 03-18-2016 11:08 PM

Same. I heard about these through my old line of work when they were relased.

Yuasa's sister company GS also released one with the exact same specs and was slightly cheaper.

I just went with the Yuasa one over the GS as it was shiney and silver :D

Flipz 03-19-2016 07:38 AM

I also went Yuasa, expensive I agree, but I think it was worth it for the extra warranty and piece of mind.

blue monster 03-19-2016 08:05 AM

I went with the Honda one as my local dealer gives me 20% S2KUK discount so it made no sense to buy anything else.

johnckeen 10-22-2018 04:17 AM

So i bought my battery from halfords (YUASA) with 5 year warranty and its died... now i dont have reciept but i have bank statement so would i succeed going in store with print out and battery?

Nottm_S2 10-22-2018 05:38 AM

That's proof I think. Halfords do email receipts - you don't have that?

I just ordered an ECP one, will see how I get on

johnckeen 10-22-2018 07:35 AM

If you are going to leave it for a long time just disconnect it. I've learnt my lesson now.

Halfords online have said a bank statement is enough and i should get a replacement.
