Default Refurbing my 5zigen Rims - Opinions Welcome

I bought these wheels off the forum and only just got round to opening the boxes (see link below)

as you can see from the pictures the wheels were painted very simply and are now chipped etc

So now I am looking at my options:

1) sand down > paint > lacquer

2) shot blast > powder coat

Option 1 would mean only the face of the wheel will be addressed and the rest of the rim masked off (so will look same as they started out)

Option 2 would mean full rim blasted and painted inside out

I'm inviting opinions on either option (pros and cons)

and suggestions on what colour I should paint them.. (my new S' is an 02 Indy Yellow)

No point messing about with wheels, get them refurbished professionally. Option2 but professionally that would mean chemically stripped not shot blast.

I painted my wheels originally and they lasted just fine. Sanded, etching primer, wet sand, 2-3 coats of color, if rough wet sand and do another coat of color, some kind of clear probably 2 coats. Last just fine. Just make sure you leave enough time between to let the paint cure. Option 2 professionally done will always look better and probably last longer. Most powder coaters will chemically strip and then sandblast them before doing the powder.

Looking at the wheels and specs I would go with whatever was cheaper since they are mis matched styles and not the best widths (rear is narrower than oem ap2 and front is wider than oen ap2).

I actually like them mis-matched - they're both cool JDM wheels

not sure how the width will cause any issues?

I have a good paintshop who will sand and paint the faces at a decent price but I was thinking to go down powder coat route for full wheel paint option and powder coat setting dead strong (future kerbing etc)
Only problem is the shot blasting can be too harsh. I don't know anywhere that will chemically strip the wheels. Whats involved?

I've spoke to some of the wheel specialists and they charge twice the price but normally send them off for blasting and then powder coat or paint as required.

I just don these for some one who wanted a particular colour in metallic on them they look pretty good. If they are really bad then get the paint sand blasted and powder coated.

If you are taking it down to the alloy you would have to use etching primer and polyester primer.

Them look like Audi wheels - look pretty tasty

I guess thats the cheapest option

so what colour will look best on Indy Yellow? Matt Black? Bronze?

and how much difference will these widths make?
OEM 17" are 7J on the Front and 8.5J on the Rear
These are 7.5J on the Front and 8J on the Rear

sorry bud that was just a example of what the finish is like painted in the spray both they of a jag lol.

8.5 j at the back i dont think you will have a problem i have used 9 j where i rolled the wheel arches in just incase they rub on the previous AP1 for the back they where 17 as well.

If you where around my ends there is a guy who does powder coating 20 a rim if the tyres are of the rim.

I would have them don gloss black on yellow and problem with mate is cleaning them and they weather out quick.

I got my post going last few days doing a custom kit on mine. I will be painting my stock 2002 s2000 wheels in gloss black or metallic panther black have look at them that colour is close to gloss black with very fine metallics but turns mor dark gray in the sun. i will be putting pics of the wheels up in the next few days.
