Removing the lambda sensor on the cat

Thanks to s2k on roids ( top bloke ) I have a very nice original replacement for my rattly cat, I intend to unplug the lambda sensor and remove it from the original cat on the bench after I've removed the cat from the car.

I suspect the sensor will be a pig to get off are there any techniques or tricks to removing it ?

I do have a blow lamp but I dont know if getting the flame close to the threaded part of the sensor will damage it or the wiring within by means of heat conduction.

Soak in Plusgas and shock force :)

Spanner and hammer.

much easier to do it whilst the cat is still on the car,

just get a large spanner and give it some force.

Use a special removal tool, either a slotted spanner or similar to fully grip the sensor.
But yes, soak in plusgas first.

This was my method too.

i used open spanner and 7foot scaffold bar nothing can live with that sort of leverage, but yes it was soaked in gt85 overnight.

I've laid under the car before, on axle stands, one foot against the wall for leverage, and heaved like mad with rust falling in my eyes to get one of these f@#kers off! :D

It's definately a case of big tools = better leverage.

Make sure you unplug the cable first though otherwise you risk twisting the wire too much and damaging it. get the cat nice and hot from a drive first and it will come out relatively easily. Let the cat cool and then try and undo it and you're likely to chew the thread of the lambda to pieces. That what some monkey did at an exhaust centre with mine!
