Replacement aircon compressor
The air conditioning compressor on my 08 plate is leaking oil and on its way out. The local dealer has quoted £1200 just for the part - even more expensive than I had feared. A lot to spend to fix a fairly discretionary system! Has anyone got any experience of fitting a reconditioned compressor and/or recommendations of reputable suppliers? Breakage is also an option though I’d hesitate to fit an aged replacement part. Thanks. |
Don't often go wrong,i would have no probs with a s/hand unit with low miles

I’d fit a used or get yours fixed. Keep in mind you will need someone licensed to empty the refridgerant (i think) it must be a shared part? |
They are USD700 or so, so an import might be worth a try: https://www.hondapartsnow.com/genuin...0-pcx-016.html

Even cheaper directly from Japan ~£412 https://www.amazon.co.jp/dp/B01M0ZETDS
No you can't order directly from amazon jp but it gives you a very good idea the prices. |
Thanks a lot for the advice. Looks like the import option is well worth a look. |
Second hand compressors are less than £100 on eBay. Well worth a punt not a difficult job to change, just need to get the alternator out of the way etc. Will need to discharge/decompress the system mind. |

I would let them do the donkey work and fit it as well, then if there are any leaks they can sort it on the spot. Wouldn't thought it would cost much. |
Mine went so bought a second hand one from interstellar off eBay. That seized on the way home from the Nurburgring and caused a fooking hassle. Got another from eBay... from some Eastern European country can’t remember which. Easy to replace with two hoses and 4 bolts. You’ll you need to add some new oils to the suction port when replacing. Then just vac out and add new R134a. Both replacements were about £100 from memory. |
Thanks for the advice. In the end I have gone for the mid cost option of ordering a new part direct from the US, which despite adverse FX and duty is still more than £400 cheaper than the Honda UK quoted price. I know the US market for S2000 spares is that much bigger, but even so that seems like a ridiculous markup for the UK...
