Default Replacement Catalytic Converter

The insides of the catalytic converter on my 08 car are rattling slightly at low revs (1200) when cold. Local main agent has quoted over £1600 to replace it. Seems more than a bit excessive. Can anyone recommend an alternative cat or an easy fix for the problem? I guess it'll only get worse, and eventually an MOT fail. Are all the model year cats the same? Any advice appreciated. Thanks

Get a high flow cat, there's a few people that sell them, Tegiwa's is really reasonable. I have their decat and i'm very happy with the quality of it.

Put a couple of hammer 'dings' in the casing?

You can pick up a 2nd hand cat for about £60, max 30 mins labour to swap it.

Mine went about 3 years ago and got one what looked exactly the same off ebay for circa £100 and got a garage to put it on.

I have read sometimes the sensor can breal but had no issues. Been good since.

Hi,

I started the thread the other week, i went for a Berk Technology 63.5mm High Flow Cat from here S2K Tuning - Exhaust

I thought about a second hand honda one but mine only has 66k on it and its already gone, so didnt want to risk it, though it was better to go with a new one. Hasnt arrived yet but should be here soon.

Thanks for all the information.
My cat has only done 54k, so unless someone has a low mileage OEM one they'd like to sell, it looks like I'll be going for the Tegiwa or Berk one. Is there any increase in noise with a high flow cat? I've got a standard exhaust with 28mm UK mod.

There will be more noise from an HFC than OEM, due to it being less restrictive.
