Did this job over the weekend with the Budweg DIY rebuild kit from Brakes International

The piston has a spring, screw thread and retaining circlip so by that description you'll need to follow some of the steps shown in this useful how-to http://www.diyautoftw.com/showthread...0-By-SpitfireS so you'll need circlip pliers + a vice to do the job

It's a bit of a pain getting the piston back in with the dust boot in the right place too - something I'd expect a calliper refurb company to have done for you

Not sure that you could make them bind with paint dribbling anywhere, did you remove the calipers or carrier slider pins when you painted ?

Could just be paint on the "ears" of the pads where they slide on the carriers everything else is protected by a dust boot

Regarding the bit of text about pistons I think it might be a generic bit of info and actually aimed at DIY kits like this one http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-GOLF-2-...-/231503975422 (was just shopping for the golf as I did have sticky calipers on all three of the cars in the family )

Refurb is easy enough. Did mine about 3 weeks ago. Got the kit from Bigg Red with new piston. Due to the slightly larger piston than that found on civics, it is 10x easier to do.
Greenman, where are you located? Happy to give a hand in rebuilding if needed.

I hope so! will soon find out when they come hopefully today or tomorrow, if they are not complete and i have to take my old caliper to pieces to build the new one then i will just send them back and buy a kit and re-furb my calipers myself!

Im actually planning on re refurbing my old calipers myself anyway for a spare set if i ever need them.

Define - can you keep me / us updated.

I don't want to buy this kit if I still have to complete a partial rebuild

Hi Shaddow

I'm just south of Aylesbury, about 45 minutes from Bedford so probably too far. Happy to pay for petrol and time, and provide tea & biscuits, if your offer stands - its a long time since I played with brakes.

Hopefully the new front calipers will arrive by this weekend.

Depending on Define198's update, I may buy the same rear calipers or just a refurb kit.

Something is definitely amiss though as both offside calipers were way too hot to touch after just 5 miles (with some heavy test braking) whilst the n/s were merely warm...

Ooh, just realised my sig still has me in Bedford.....Now in Bidford-on-Avon, near Stratford-on-Avon.
Have you got a bench, vice and circlip pliers. All you really need.
I think iv got a spare set of rear calipers laying around if you wanted to rebuild them off the car and just swap for yours?
Might use the spare ones to do a DIY guide.
