Default Replacing the striker plates

Hi all,

So I decided that as the S is coming up for 6 that I would sort a few jobs. I decided that it was about time the striker plates were replaced. So, decided today to fit them - or so I thought!

Removed the side trim from the windscreen on both sides no problem. Removed the clear plastic bit from the interior lights and undid the screws behind no problem. Removed the trim - all good.

Great so far, but then it quickly stopped...

Undid the first screw on the Drivers side again no problem. But I couldn't remove the other one and the two on the passengers side are also stuck fast.

So your help please. How do I get them undone??

I tried using a ratchet with the screwdriver bit to see if I could get some more pressure behind it but nope. Also gave them a hit with a hammer in an attempt to free them off. The screw that did come out didn't seem to have any loctite on it.

I am now lost as what to try next in order to free them off without rounding the screw heads off any further.

Open to suggestions please as this should have been a 20 minute job.....

Thanks in advance Rob

Screwdriver with molegrips gripped transverse to the driver?

Push the screwdriver in and turn on the 'grips, should give you more leverage.

Its fairly bad practice to undo tight bolts with a ratchet as it can destroy the mechanism FYI!

Try and tighten them very slightly. That can usually break any bond between the screw and the material you're going into. Be careful not to strip the thread though so go carefully.

Gentle use of an impact driver as you are very close to the screen!

take the screw you have off to a tool merchant and get the best fit driver you can find

impact wrench is the best bet as Kwaka said, i think it's cushioned to an extent as it turns the impact into rotational force?

wd40 or similar may help? otherwise you could try heat.

if all else fails you can weld a nut onto the screw and then replace them

use a screwdriver with the correct sized head,
put screwdriver in place and hit the handle end with a hammer to create a shock freeing up any rust or moisture locking it in place
